Preferences are NOT saved correctly

The save and load search parameters mechanism does not work correctly.
additionally, when defining a filter for a file name it should default to the last
search type - I regularly search for .h .c .m .mm files - and I cannot save the search.
Also - no help is available.....

Please add some step-by-step reproducible example otherwise is really hard to find and fix the bugs
