New Global Preference: Reuse previous window position and size

When opening a new search window (either through the File | New command or the CLI) I always use the same size and position, so it would be really useful to have the option to use this position and size whenever I open a new search window...

...So I don't have to move and resize the new window every time.

VisualGrep is a document based app and uses Apple HIG so I will study a way to meet your request with these guidelines

Most of my other apps (such as Sound Studio) work fine for me when creating a new document window. So, I think I have a solution:

1. Just save the document window size globally (any time a document window is resized). -- This is probably the user preferred size, so Visual Grep can apply this size for a new document window.
2. When the window is occupying the whole screen (I always have my document windows like this), instead of incrementing the position (as Visual Grep will do in other cases), the position is kept.

Apple in the past rejected my app because it resized without respecting an HIG rule (overriding document standard behaviour).

BTW Storing window size is easy, also determine full screen mode so what you say is reasonable, easy to implement and improves user experience but I want to be sure Apple doesn't bother me

That's curious... Because Sound Studio is in the Mac App Store too... Can you point me to that specific HIG rule? Is there a web link to it?

A possible solution: Maybe Visual Grep could just save the size globally when a window is resized AND the Option/Alt key is being pressed?

BTW, I've heard (some years ago) of some window settings in Finder being saved only when we are pressing Option, that's why I had that last ideia...

Can you remember other softwares (trial or free so I can download only to study) working like you prefer? No matter if they are on MAS.

Especially how the full screen is handled when at startup many docs are restored using ML (and Lion) window restoration feature

Davide, what do you mean by "full screen"?

...I rarely use the standard full screen (introduced in Lion), because I don't like the animation when switching spaces, and other spaces' weirdness.

Sure, I understand what you want (e.g maximized windows) but if I add this feature I must try to make as much users happy as possible and many users switch to Lion/ML full screen

BTW This month I've sold only six VG's copies so I think no user will bother if full screen isn't restored :D :D

Yes, many apps (including some Apple ones) don't restore full screen... But then again, many times Apple doesn't follow its own guidelines...

Sublime Text 2 works like I prefer... Google Chrome too...
