Installing latest REST API package shows both API and REST API under System; normal? API gives "403 Forbidden"

Hi,

Installed latest REST API package (pfSense-24.11-pkg-RESTAPI.pkg) on my 24.11-RELEASE (amd64).
All went well, but now I have both API and REST API under System.
REST API works fine, but API gives me a "403 Forbidden".
Is this normal?

I first had pfSense 24.03 running with an API version. (v1.x)
Before upgrading to 24.11, I unchecked the option to store my API config (so it would be deleted), because during an upgrade of pfSense the API package is automatically uninstalled anyway.

The System > API page is specific to the v1 package and System > REST API is specific to v2. That error was present running v1 on 24.11 before v1.8.0. It sounds like the v1 package wasn't fully removed during the upgrade for 24.11 for whatever reason, or it somehow got reinstalled afterward. If you don't need v1 anymore, you should be able to remove the v1 package by running pfsense-api delete or pkg-static delete pfSense-pkg-API from the command line. This will not remove the v2 package. If you do need v1 still, you will want to make sure you install v1.8.0 for 24.11 support.

Don't need v1 anymore, so executed the above commands, but they didn't help it seems:

pfsense-api delete -->
pfsense-api: Command not found.

pkg-static delete pfSense-pkg-API -->
No packages matched for pattern 'pfSense-pkg-API'

Checking integrity... done (0 conflicting)
1 packages requested for removal: 0 locked, 1 missing

API is still showing in the menu...

Has this something to do with it?

It's possible, although that would suggest a more general issue with the pfSense package system. pfSense-repoc is a part of pfSense itself which is automatically called by pkg.

You can try to reinstall v1 and then attempt to delete it again. This should allow it to delete cleanly:

pkg-static -C /dev/null add https://github.com/jaredhendrickson13/pfsense-api/releases/download/v1.8.0/pfSense-24.11-pkg-API.pkg
pkg-static delete pfSense-pkg-API
