As described in the nw-builder bug report, symlinks are lost in CircleCI MacOS environments. This seems to be a known issue with MacOS. The only solution I see is using yauzl-promise which claims to fix the MacOS Archive Utility issues (thejoshwolfe/yauzl#69).
