If v29.0.1 is still scheduled for release tomorrow, since none of us have had time to dig into #45257 properly, we can merge #45400 as a temporary countermeasure. Been holding off in case we got around to it.

EDIT: Backport of #45400 for v29.0.1 release is in #45469 and approved. Just needs someone with freeze override authority to merge it please :)
